Hash House Harriers Tartan
The Quest for a Kilt of Our Own
More Info Kilts will likely be made of a durable, hash-friendly material such as polyviscose (the same material that SportKilts are made of). Kilts should be available in both regular length and mini-length for the ladies (or the exceptionally effeminate men). At this time, there has not been specific discussion of kilt features such as pockets, belt loops, and so on. Oftentimes, these options can be added at the time of purchase. Since a supplier has not yet been chosen, further details are unavailable about pleats, features, and pricing at this time. In general, durable kilts such as these range from $40 for a simple kilt (sans extra features) to $100+ for a fully-decked out kilt (buckles, fringe, pockets, and so forth). We will make every effort to keep the costs at a minimum without sacrificing trail-worthy hashability. For hashers wishing to purchase a full-on, traditional wool kilt, the registered pattern name may be submitted to kilt-makers to have the material woven and sewn into a kilt.
What's Next?
At present, there are several actions being taken toward the end goal of creating hash kilts.
· Kilt-makers are being contacted to find out about having kilts made.
· Samples of both tartan designs are being woven to submit to the STA.
· Donations are being accepted to defray the costs of registration, weaving, and so forth. To make a donation, please see the bottom of this page. No, we are not making a profit from this.
· Names of interested hashers are being collected to estimate how many people are interested in buying a kilt. This information is needed to persuade the kilt-makers to produce a special line of kilts for us (and to give us leverage in negotiating the price).
That’s what this website is all about! So please sign up if you’re interested in buying a hash kilt!
When will the kilts be ready?
Dude, it’s going to take awhile. Like several months! We have many, many more steps to go through. While you’re waiting, have a beer! Mismanagement is gratefully accepting donations to defray the costs of this venture, which thus far have added up to several hundred dollars. Costs include: registration at the Scottish Tartan Authority, tartan sample weaving, website hosting, and more. As in all Hash projects, the work going into this is voluntary--and we're glad to do it! But it's great to have people support our efforts monetarily, too, so we don't go too far in the hole. (Hole? Who said hole?)
Make a donation
You may make a donation via Paypal. Please send your payment to the following account: hashtartan@yahoo.com (PLEASE do not send emails to the preceding email address. It is for Paypal payments only and we don't check it for emails. To contact us, please see the Mismanagement page.). We apologize that we do not have a direct-pay feature here on the website, but our Paypal account is just a regular free account, not a business account (so we can't embed the direct pay features...or if we can, I can't figure out how). If possible, donations by cash transfer are preferred (credit cards are accepted, but Paypal deducts a healthy fee from those donations). Thank you most sincerely for considering making a donation.
